THE Historic Leyburn Sprints has donated part of the proceeds from its 2016 event to help children in the Darling Downs town.
Organising committee President Tricia Chant and Treasurer John Hall presented a cheque for $3600 to the Leyburn branch of the Queensland Police Blue Light Association.
The cheque was handed to officer in charge of the Leyburn Police Officer in Charge Steve Gibbs during a recent committee meeting.
The money will be used to improve facilities and activities for local kids.
The Historic Leyburn Sprints, which celebrated its 21st event in August, is run by a community committee that directs funds back to local organisations and projects.
This year's event attracted around 350 competitors on- and off-track and an estimated 15,000 spectators over two days.
The Blue Light Association, run by police and civilian volunteers, supports under-18 young people through by providing safe, suitable entertainment and activities in an environment free from alcohol, drugs and violence.
