John English (Chev Camaro Z28), Ian Woodward (Pontiac Firebird) and Mike Collins (Ford Mustang) will be laying plenty of rubber in their powerful V8 machines.
Although Leyburn has seen plenty of American V8s, the TransAm cars are real racers built to strict specifications for their championship.
“They’re quite spectacular – they’ll make a lot of noise and tyre smoke at Leyburn,” predicts English, one of Queensland’s most experienced and accomplished racing drivers.
“My Camaro won the Historic TransAm Challenge in 2012 and it’s leading the competition by a significant margin again this year.
“The Firebird and the Camaro run 350 Chev motors giving around 530 horsepower.
“They have to use standard pump fuel, a single four-barrel carby and even cross-ply tyres.”
English says the TransAm Challenge has been running for four years and is growing in popularity.
Around 30 cars are registered to compete in the racing series which will showcase itself with the exciting display by English, Woodward and Collins at Leyburn.
